Green Roof workshop

Kees Grovers of Caradoc Green Roofs joined the Grand House Cooperative for a great introductory workshop on Green Roof construction and design. This workshop outlined the benefits of green roof construction, including beautifying cityscapes, stormwater run-off management and extending the lifecycle of roofs, among many others. Kees discussed the two different kinds of green roofs: intensive and extensive, and outlined the respective disadvantages and advantages of the modular systems versus more traditional green-roof construction. His presentation showed examples of both kinds of roofs and provides a great deal of information in regard to green roof construction. To download a copy of his presentation please click here. Kees also brought along a planted example of the modular green-roof panels that his company sells. For the hands-on portion of the workshop the participants helped to build a sample green roof, by laying down the various components such as waterproof membrane, landscape cloth, containment edges, soil and a few plants.
