The Grand House Cooperative welcomed interior designer Melanie Scott, for an excellent workshop on sustainable and non-toxic materials. Particularly useful for anyone with allergies or those interested in non-toxic construction this workshop provided a list of different materials and methods for green and sustainable building.
The workshop began with an introduction to green and sustainable building in terms of “how do we define it?”. Melanie then identified sources of indoor air pollution, such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), and electromagnetic field pollution (EMF), and talked about multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS). The presentation included a list of different certifying bodies such as the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), information on bau-biologie, and comprehensive details on materials and products with non-toxic properties.
